Altitude has me, but not too bad. Just a bit heady and sleepy. So I went for a morning walk. I stopped for coffee at one of the hundreds of little cafes in Bogota, one of about 4 on my block. I met an old Canadian (As old as I am? I think older) who had stories he had to tell, no matter what.
Further on my walk I met up with the Graffiti Walking Tour and just sort of tagged along, so to speak. The tolerance for graffiti, even encouragement of it, is remarkable compared to the aggressive intolerance in the U.S.. I followed along for about 5 miles, taken so much with the art and the stories that I forgot that I was supposed to take it very easy today to adjust to the altitude. I don’t feel much the worse for wear, but maybe tonight I might have felt a bit better if I had followed the general advice.
I took a long dreamy nap, and woke and walked a bit more. I did manage to upload some photos, so here is my first day in Bogota (These photos are all in the historic district of Candelaria :
